Printing Essentials to Maximize Business ROI

by Guest Author

Jane’s note: Our guest author today will help you with physical collateral that you may find is still essential to your business presence. These are your business cards, media kit, brochures, and even flyers.

You’re in business to make money and to deliver the best products and services you can. Your name is on the company masthead and you expect your business to adhere to the same high standards as you do.  Your printed materials say a great deal about you – for many people these items will be the very first contact they have with your company, and as ever, first impressions count!

The Business Card

The humble business card may seem out of place in an electronic world where many people are conducting information swapping through their smart phones, but you would be very wrong to think this. Business cards are 24/7 x 365 sales men and women for your business. They are more likely to be stored for future use than any other item on your business presentation materials, and no self-respecting sales representative would be without their stock of business cards.

There are plenty of funky designs to choose from, but for business purposes you should stick to what stands out and gets your message across clearly and fast. With business cards you only have a micro moment to convince the recipient to keep your card or to throw it away. A lot will depend on who is handing the card out to begin with, but the real kicker here is how it will be used later on. Business cards are usually kept for substantial periods of time, and it is when the recipient is looking for that elusive name and number that creating a business card which will stand out from the deck usually thrown in the top desk drawer pays off.

The Flyer

The flyer is often overlooked by businesses; however it is probably the piece of business stationery which generates the highest ROI of all. A flyer is an excellent way to raise awareness in a locality, and especially for announcing something new, such as a sale with a discount offer as long as they bring the flyer or for alerting the general public and other businesses that you have moved into the area.

Flyers are extremely cheap to produce and if you use poster paper you can get a colorful effect but still only use one ink, which keeps your costs down to a minimum. Distribution is also simple to do – you can include them as an insert with local newspaper deliveries, mail them out or simply hire someone for a few bucks an hour to hand them out for you.

Monthly or Quarterly Newsletter

It doesn’t take much to produce a monthly or quarterly newsletter and you need not be a top flight journalist. The point behind a newsletter is to maintain contact with your customers – even where the bulk of your newsletters sent out end up in the trash, it is still getting your name and business in front of customers and that counts. You can keep things simple and have a single sheet, printed double-side as your basic information newsletter – if you want to build on that, that’s fine, but for contact and maintaining a customer touch you don’t need a lot.
