Here are my basic steps:</p>
<p>1. I define 3 core areas to focus on for the year.</p>
<p>2. I identify key goals for each core area.</p>
<p>3. I create action plans for each goal.</p>
<p>4. I look at what individual actions and tasks comprise each action plan.</p>
<p>5. I track metrics for everything in #4, which if met would roll up to items 3, 2, and 1 targets.</p>
<p>Now, the above is my ideal scenario. </p>
<p>What ACTUALLY happens is that I do items 1-3. Then depending on life, my time-lines had to adjust for actions in item 4. </p>
<p>I also look at interim metrics and surrogate markers for item 5, and occasionally realize that I needed to scrap a goal based on this info or revise the goal or maybe make a new goal.</p>

<p>and you can get a similar effect as</p>

- subcategory 2</p>
