In 2004 I bootstrapped a consulting company in a very competitive industry and I took this business from zero to 6 figures within 12 months… and made 6 figure income each year since.
In 2008 I took a 1-year business sabbatical, because I became a new mom and did not want to miss my baby’s first year of life.
I said no to consulting offers and new projects so I could personally witness every single milestone of my baby’s first year – his first smile, his first laugh, the first time his two little fists uncurled and I could hold his fingers, his first crawl, his first walk, his first tooth. Since I barely worked, the numbers showed. During my sabbatical, the business made around $70,000.
$70,000 is a decent salary for many people. Considering that I “barely” worked due to total exhaustion, this was serious money per number of hours “worked”.
But To me, this number was a rude awakening. I’d gotten used to making over $250,000, but apparently, I had made myself a job. The job paid me well when I worked hard, but it wasn’t so kind when I could not or did not want to put in as many work-hours.
I wanted to be BOTH entrepreneur AND parent. I joined the growing trend of entrepreneurs who refused to trade their personal relationships and families, no matter how much they loved their work.
And believe me, I LOVE what I do, because I designed my jobs. It was very easy to work and work and work, when most of the time it didn’t feel like work at all. I was doing what I loved to do.
But I also need to deal with the realities of bills and a mortgage and the cost of living in Southern California and saving for retirement.
In 2009, I stopped interviewing part-time nannies because I wanted to take care of my son full time. Instead of taking the original option (get a nanny, resume work full-time), I re-engineered my business process and changed how I worked.
Before 2009 ended, I was back to earning 6 figures. I even started a new business.
Now, I teach entrepreneurs how to create their powerful personal brand so they can rapidly gain recognition, advance in their industry, and generate remarkable revenue… While never missing the most important milestones in their lives.
How can I accelerate your business and wealth today?
