What is a microbusiness? It depends on who you’re asking, and which state you live in! Here is what my friend Lloyd Lemons says about microbusiness (mBiz):

An mBiz often has no employees (i.e. the soloist or one-person business), or maybe one, two, or three (perhaps more) employees who are often family members or close friends. Micros are often operated from the owner’s home, or a small executive suite office. Income can range from a few dollars a week to over a million dollars a year. … Often, micros don’t have access to traditional financing, and the business is either started with little money, self-financed, financed creatively through friends or angel investors; or more and more, through one of the microfinance options that are starting to multiply.

About Jane Chin

I see myself as a “Practical Idealist Seeker Analyst Entrepreneur”.

I have been an Entrepreneur since 2004, when I quit a six-figure job to start my own business. On a mission and passion to do what I think was “right”, I created a successful advisory and consultancy in the hyper competitive pharmaceutical industry.

I want to find the many ways we can design our future.

I am Analytical. I was a scientific researcher for many years and have a B.S. in Microbiology and Ph.D. in Biochemistry.

I want to see the patterns that propel, connect, and sustain life.

I am a Seeker. (I don’t know how to feel about this, because if one identifies with seeking then one may be precluded from ever finding… I mentioned I was analytical, right?) I seek passion, fulfillment, and inner peace from this human experience.

I want to know what makes each of us feel most alive.

I am a “Practical Idealist”. This simply means I believe it is possible for us to live well financially and at the same time, live well spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically.

I want to see the highest potential in the choices we make and the persons we choose to become.

On my current path as Practical Idealist Seeker Analyst Entrepreneur, I am focusing on entrepreneurship in the niche knowledge economy. In other words, I’m interested in helping you create intellectual-property based businesses from knowledge you have gained and practical experience you have earned.

You can follow me on Twitter or Plurk. You may also view my professional profile on LinkedIn.

“The Juggle” (or maybe “The Struggle”?)

jane and jaden I’m now engaged in “Living Meditation Better Known as Parenthood”, as you can see from my picture. We had a baby boy in Winter of 2007.

I have always been interested in “work-life balance”. Now I experience first-hand the importance, and the struggle, in juggling family and business.

Running a business, exploring new business areas, and taking care of an infant is no small task particularly for solo entrepreneurs (moms or dads) who attempt to juggle these simultaneously!

I write about my experiences juggling or struggling through this balance in a blog called Sweet Fatigue. In March of 2009 I decided to become a full-time stay at home mom. I still conduct business activities – but now I prioritize much better and I conduct these activities during my son’s nap time and after he goes to bed. My husband has been a godsend by taking turns with me and caring for my son in the evenings so I can have some uninterrupted work time at night.

About “… through the lens of a Practical Idealist Seeker Analyst Entrepreneur”

I must thank Steve Woodruff for identifying 3 of the elements of my tagline, “Practical Idealist Seeker Analyst Entrepreneur”.

Steve wrote an article about personal branding, “Your Personal Brand, Does it Matter?” and Plurked it, which led us to a short conversation and identification (by Steve) of my “personal brand”.

Steve has been a colleague of mine for years and is a super savvy brand expert, so if your company needs a branding guru, go check him out.
