About Me
I must have changed this “About Me” page 3 or 4 times since I created this blog in 2008 – and the changes weren’t ones like, “oh my hair’s gone from short to long and oh wait my hair’s short again.”
The changes are more like – hey I started a business – OK I retired this other business – now I’m working on these new businesses….
But if you clicked on this page then you want to learn more about the person writing this blog and “what’s her background” so here goes:
- I started out as a cancer research scientist, did my Ph.D. and all that.
- I also got interested in business while waiting for experiments to run, and in creating websites and blogs.
- I started my professional career in pharmaceuticals, went through a series of functions including R&D, sales, and medical affairs.
- Then I started my own consulting business in 2004 and did a ton of cool stuff through that.
- In 2008 I started this blog while doing a “life experiment” because I became a new mom
- This year I shifted gears dramatically, going into leadership development.
- I wrote a whole bunch of books in different subjects including a memoir (this was very important to me, personally)
- I also finally found a topic I could stick with for a blog that I’d started in 2004
Here’s the thing… my primary job is “mom” to my little boy and running my own business has been one way for me to call the shots around the priorities of my life. It’s not easy and I do sometimes feel like I’m “behind” peers (or competitors) who can devote themselves to their businesses 24-7.
But being a mom has forced me to keep only what’s the most important and learn to say “no” to everything else. OK I’m still learning the “no” part.
